THE SELECTING WINNERS STORYIn 1984, after having taught a variety of interview training programs, Barry Shamis was frustrated. He was frustrated because even though he had taught hundreds of classes, from a variety of authors, he was not seeing the results he thought were possible. So, he founded Selecting Winners with the sole intention of creating the most usable behavior-based interview training program. The key design tenets of Selecting Winners were the following:
With these principles as a starting point, Barry Shamis spent the next 18 months researching and developing a system that guarantees hiring success. He spoke with dozens of experts and tested hundreds of techniques. The result was version 1.0 of Selecting Winners. The Selecting Winners program was unique in that it addressed hiring from a business issues perspective. Rather than focus on competencies or personality dimensions, we chose to focus on business objectives. Selecting Winners uses a performance-based success profile as the roadmap for hiring people that solve your business problems. At each step, the program was tested for ease of implementation. If a manager wouldn't put an idea into practice, we found an easier way to get it done. This program was designed to work in the "real" world. Once we proved our concept, we rolled the program out. Since 1984, we have trained more than 32,000 executives, managers and business owners. And, we never stopped innovating and improving the process. In 2001, we introduced version 11.0 of the program. Currently we have certified instructors throughout North America. In addition, we have distributors that represent the program in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. We have delivered the Selecting Winners program in more than 30 countries with great results. We have delivered the program to companies in almost every industry. We never stop adding new techniques and valuable tools to the program. And, you will not find any gimmicks or tricks in our program. True to our original design tenet of not putting people into positions they are not qualified for, all the Selecting Winners strategies, techniques and tools work for the busy business person.
